BOIS THIBAULT CASTLE
Bois Thibault castle dates from the end of the 11th centurt.
It formed part of a line of defence against the Anglo-Normans from the North.
With the passage of time it evolved thank to the families de Logé, du Bellay, du Matz de Brossay, de Tournely and de Saint-Paul de Lingeard.
The last resident left in 1830. After this date, several owners left the castle, abandonned to the ravages of the weather, of weeds and bramble and to looters who were stealing the fine stoneworks !
Le château was named 'Monument Historique' in 1925.
In 1988, Lassay Townhall, strongly encouraged by the "Association Bois Thibault Passé et Avenir" became the proprietor. From1997,on the initiative of the association "Bois Thibault Passé et Avenir" and in agreement with local communities and the Historical Monuments Department , volunteers organised workshops, thus allowing a complete cleanup of the site, the repairing of the bread oven and the staircase in the XVth century building
In 2011, the Association Bois Thibault joined up with the Cultural Association, who took on the task of preserving the memory of this exceptional site.
Bois Thibault castle is open to the publics every weekend between Easter and the Patrimony Days in mid-September
